Gliotoxin

Gliotoxin is a mycotoxin produced by Aspergillus fumigatus, a major cause of death in immunocompromised patients (e.g. transplant, HIV, Cancer). Gliotoxin has been demonstrated to have significant immunosuppressive effects and may play a role in the evasion of host defenses in Invasive Aspergillosis. Aspergillus fumigatus is also commonly detected in the ERMI (Environmental Relative Moldiness Index) test on environmental samples taken from water damaged buildings and homes.

Using the Gliotoxin derivative ELISA test, RTL has demonstrated the presence of the Gliotoxin derivative in serum from patients with confirmed and presumptive Invasive Aspergillosis, environmental samples that were positive for Aspergillus fumigatus, and urine of patients that had tested positive for other mycotoxins in previous clinical screens
